I Don't Believe You

When I was young,
you told me that my dream was
rejectable,
impossible,
and altogether laughable.
You spit in my face
your words of discouragement:
Change your dreams,
change your wants,
change yourself.
"Maybe you should do something
more realistic."
As if what I had been dreaming
was a lie I made up.
Too illiterate to be a writer,
too unattractive to be on film.
You told me when I was young
that my dream was infallible.
Now I'm telling you,
nothing is impossible.
